Advances in technology have reshaped many aspects of daily life, one of which being the way we communicate, and when it comes to voice communication traditional landline telephony is now looking like yesterday's technology, with upfront connection costs and an inflexible and outdated legacy infrastructure that is becoming increasingly costly and difficult to maintain.
With the PSTN and ISDN network being withdrawn at the end of 2025, businesses need to prepare themselves, and plan ahead, by implementing new technology solutions to replace these legacy networks, especially so if you happen to be in a long term PSTN or ISDN contract or are looking to expand your telephony capacity. Read more here.
We can help you prepare for this change by implementing Internet calling, known more commonly as Voice Over Internet Protocol, or simply VoIP, which uses your internet connection to make, receive and manage calls over broadband or mobile data networks, and which also brings significant benefits in terms of cost savings, immense flexibilty and scalability, and extensive features normally associated with expensive on-premises PABX switchboards.
In addition to the above benefits, a VoIP telephony solution enables you to stay connected with a single telephone number, or extension number, wherever you are, on any device, as long as you have an internet connection. If you are working from home, you can take your desk phone with you and simply connect it to your home network, or use an application on your PC/Laptop/Mobile Phone, to make and receive calls as if you were at your desk or workplace with no additional costs. Likewise, if you are away from your desk or workplace, or simply travelling, calls can be automatically routed to your mobile phone so you are always contactable.
Your existing landline telephone numbers can be ported to a VoIP service, and any existing extension numbering scheme can generally be retained, so following the switch to VoIP there will be no obvious differences other than the increased flexibility and call quality.
Whilst there are many VoIP providers to choose from, one of which being Microsoft with their Microsoft 365 Business Voice add-on to an existing Microsoft 365 subscription, this can be an expensive option if you don't need all the features the full subscription package offers.
We have chosen award winning Voipfone as our preferred VoIP service provider as they offer extensive features at an affordable price, and additional services can be added as needed without being locked into a long term contract.
